Jagaddhatri Puja

Jagaddhatri is another form of Mother Goddess.

As we all know, the British entered India through Bengal. In order to win the hearts and minds of the “natives”, the British started patronizing Durga Puja, the biggest religious and cultural festival of Bengal.

Not too far from Kolkata is Chandannagar, an erstwhile French colony. The French did not want to fall behind the British in showing their affiliation to the natives. Jagaddhatri Puja was patronized by French. Even today, in Chandannagar, Jagaddhatri Puja is celebrated with bigger fanfare than Durga Puja.

Recently some puja committees have started celebrating Jagaddhatri Puja to avoid being a "me too" for Durga Puja.

Enjoy you Jagaddhatri Puja!

Enjoy and Celebrate your Bangaliana!
